The Best Places in Second Life

Second Life sometimes feels like a trailer park after a hurricane hit, with jumbled "prims" scattered through the landscape, while someone's vision of art is textured on the surface. Sometimes it feels like a brave shopping mall kept open in a deserted town; lots of shops for maybe one or two customers. These surreal experiences are not intended. The vision of Second Life is user-generated content; so where is it?

Fortunately, there is some -- and some of it is the best you'll see in any game.

1) Live Music Enthusiasts (Group)

My top pick is not a place, but a group. The charter of this group is to support and promote live musicians performing in SL. The musicians are generally quite good, and the group attracts nice people, making this a good social as well as musical experience. This is SL at its best: people sharing their talent with one another.

The group is free to join, just type "Live Music" into "Search" under Groups to find it. Join, and you will get group messages about upcoming gigs.

2) The Pot Healer Adventure

This is a fully-developed adventure game within Second Life, and really represents the kind of development Linden Labs was originally looking for when they made Second Life.

When you arrive you will be presented with some themed clothes, and a backpack. You will get a notebook which stores your progress, allowing you to leave and return to this game.

The game is more fun when you adventure with friends, it makes a great group outing.

Visit here.

3) New Citizens Plaza

I'm not sure if the group here operates for a profit or not, but there is little commercial push here, just a lot of well-organized information and freebies for those new to Second Life. If you haven't visited here, and in particular if you are new, drop by for a visit. Pick up free stuff, and check out the Second Life tutorials. Live people are on hand to assist and advise you.

Visit here.

If you have a favorite place you want to recommend for this website, please IM me in Second Life, and I'll take a look and get it up here! (Please, no plugs for your store lol).
